For those of us still toiling in the foothills, any further hints for 1A and hints for 25A and 42A would be most welcome!

barretter, I don't have the crossword in front of me so I hope I'm thinking of the right one. You want to take R for right out of an unusual word for support, to give a word for runs (as in the verb).

I agree with the mechanics but I can't think of the unusual word for support. Is there a clash at the beginning?

In 42A, there's a clash in the 3rd letter.

Took us a while to get the 15 letter word, but we've done it now and it explains which letter to use in the clashes. The title "Delightful Punishment" is a crossword clue to the word, not a " charade type" clue.
