Multiple problems here:

Can't work out 1A, 33A or 30D.

Also, the obvious answer to 35D clashes with 39A in a way distinct from the other 'E' clashes (which are all E/L).

demeter, I have the same problem as you with the clash between 35d and 39a.
However, there is an E/F clash between 16d and 33a.

There's a clash in 28 A, at the beginning.

1 Across has a clash (also at the beginning). The answer is a very unusual word for a song, almost a word for a 'solemn appeal'.

I got 1A just after I posted earlier.

Demeter etc. I have 28A as a musical abbreviation for softly, with a word for finally, to give a Spenserian word meaning to put in position. There are clashes at the first two letters. I'm spuzzling over 1D and 4D (thinking LIGHT for 4D but can't parse).

1D is a set of five babies + a letter

4D LIGHT is just LIG (=to lie about) + HT (height)
