Aquestion, lig means to lie about. Then the obvious abbreviation for height.

Finally seen the method of resolution, but I still can't get the 15 letter word.

Understand method of clash resolution, but also cannot suss word. Before that though, do not understand 32d, and can not get either 40a or 30d. Can I get some more hints please?

32a is a double definition clue - check out those fish in Chambers. 40a is also fishy and is defined by 'sucker' - the usual abbreviation for Ulster with the French for born (f) and an affirmative synonym.

And I think 30d is also a double definition

I have ENCASE for 30.

I had put in incase which in chambers is under "in case " as to make safe. No idea about the line bit?
Also tried lots of combinations for big word: something lines ; something strokes; something corrections, but no convincing one yet. Contemplated self-flagellation , but realised 1 too many!

30D: "in case" means to make safe; "incase" (under "encase") means to line.

Consider the puzzle's title as a charade-type clue to the 15-letter word.
