What we need now is some interpretation of what needs to be done to the rectangle. There is an implication that initial letters are involved, but the 10 cells with the initial letters within the rectangle don't seem to anagram to anything. And the 5 things which have to go in the first 5 cells at the top (= 6 letters as far as I can see) don't imply a 7th letter to go thematically into the 6th cell. Maybe these thematic entities represent more than one letter? I don't know anybody old enough to ask. Still, a lot further forward than 3 days ago. Trudge, trudge ...
