Meant to add that the P in 28D is also a clash.

Thanks Cockie. I get the idea now, but it's made it harder than ever! I'll carry on struggling.

Hi Crackability, I've got all these except 39a. Assuming you have 31d I'd be happy to swap your answer to this for any of the ones you still don't have. And I'd do another swap to have 28d. This is a real toughie.

crimbo,
wordplay for 39a
Take (1) in water (3, urine) + fall behind back(wards) (3),
of old like is the definition (like, as in equal).

Crimbo,

Happy to swap - yes a tough one this week

31d def is Unidentified m(o/a)le
can = john
accomplish = do
bit of espionage = e

28d def is country (w/t)alk
innocent = idio(t) short
married after = m (at back)

Hope this helps

Ouch! This is a hard one!

I've completed grid fill apart from 48a, so if some kind person will help me I can move to the next step!

Pretty sure there is a clash in this one, but, for what it's worth, here is the clue and my current letters.

Creditor going after money - I owe over a thousand mill.

Definition has a misprint, and my letters are; M?TRO?

Thanks

Hi crackability,

Thanks very much for your help. I had thought of IDIOM but couldn't see where the innocent or the country came in. I get it now. As for 31d, I don't think I would have ever got that!

Returning the compliment: for 22a try tree in sty, and think of busking rather than basking. And for 1d it's A in S-TRITE, with fillers converting to filters.

Hope that gets you on a bit.

I'm still completely stuck with the bottom right corner.

Ollie, many thanks. Having worked it out from your hints I had no idea that 'take' can be R, but Chambers says it does so who am I to argue?

Thanks crackabilty! This could be why I can't solve 48a !

Back to the drawing board, methinks!
