I've completed the puzzle but have no idea about the title (a slight shortcoming, I think - one should be required to demonstrate an understanding, even though I'm a beneficiary of the absence of such a requirement). I'm assuming that it is a s????y of the unclued entries about the absence of the examples (d???s or l????s). I can think of a possible title that works but find no justification in ODQ. Thanks.

I took it to be a song from South Pacific. But as noted it does not really matter.

The index of ODQ has your keyword, dame, which takes you to the title. The missing items were not ladies in the sense required by the theme.

I thought the preamble was rather loose and inaccurate. The title in ODQ explains nothing. The preamble should have said something like, " A work, whose title is given in ODQ, explains..."

I'm afraid you've lost me, Meursalt. I don't understand the x,y notation, and according to the word lengths given there are no 10-letter words and only one 11-letter and that is two words. I do have Enchant for the 6th across clue - could that be the Pageant that you hadn't parsed? My list of unsolved clues would be far too long to present, even in the generous Crossword Solver.
