chrise: My kids grew up in that era during which "Pride and Prejudice" re-stylings were rolled out as regularly as new car models in Detroit and Jane Austen raked in more cash for academe than the James Joyce and feminism industries combined. There was at least one copy of P&P in every car we ever owned, and others could usually be found amidst the piles of women's magazines that all featured how-to-get-rid-of-clutter articles. Anyway, my eldest daughter sent me this clip several years ago and it cracked me up. I'm with Mr. Darcy.

I confess to loving Jane Austen's prose. However I'm not doctrinaire about, and do love parodies. There was a great one a few years ago on TV here called "Lost in Austen" - did you come across it?

Oh, I like her too, particularly Emma- especially the Box Hill chapter and the ingenious use of the village chatterbox to fill the reader in on background information that would otherwise be stylistically intrusive.

No, I haven't seen it.
