Some lovely clues, but I'm feeling dense. Could busby (or anyone else) parse the clue @3? I see "girl" and the definition but am otherwise at a loss. Don't spare me; I'm prepared to be embarrassed.

Also, I assume that "eel" in mattrom's second clue is intended to be a "bridge", to serve as part of the definition and as homophone for "conger" (New England is the only place in the US where it works as one!). Is that your intention, mattrom?

Read INSPIRE as IN SPIRE - spires are cone-shaped - so GAL IN inside CONE
