5d is "pit " - can mean "set against " and also "a (fruit) stone ".

Just to muddy the waters ---
5D could be PUT
'stone put' is the Scottish version of 'shot put'.

All in all I think PIT is better even if I don't know the (fruit) stone version; preferring 'pip' myself.
