Chris and Pauly

Which is how I got 18d. It bears no relation to the clue but is a theme word.

I've now finished apart from 16d, which despite your hint Pauly I can't see. I have W?R?E? I think I can see a word that fits, but I have no idea how it parses. I'll see what my friend saya tomorrow.

FOI was 5ac. LOI was 16d. There weren't many I rated as I found the parsing very obscure, but I did like 25d when I finally got it. I knew it was related to roman numerals. I did have a break to do the quick cryptic - much quicker and more enjoyable.

All done, apart from 1a, which noone else seems to have a problem with. Guessing there is a sounds like for worrying, but can't work it out.

Finally struggled to the end. Without the hints on this forum I’d still be staring at a half-finished grid, so many thanks.
I started to enjoy it by the end, encouraged by the fact that I wasn’t the only one struggling :)

Reminds me of when I worked for Acorn Computers in Cambridge in the early 90s when my boss used to describe some problems as “solvable, but you have to turn your brain inside out” :)

Not a name I recognise, I’m afraid. I was in the C compiler team and worked a bit on RISCOS. From 1989-95. Makes me realise how long ago!

Started late so just finished ( Sunday afternoon in Australia ).
Enjoyed it in parts .
