Morning all, I have the answer for 5D but I don't really get the parsing?

Hi Neville
It is the just the name for the extra line above the e (the e that is one of the two central letters (characters) in Amelie).

Phil, yes, indeed!

Neville, in 5d the whole clue is working as a literal description. A clue-type I’ve seen described as a “visual gag”.

Just finished, with 9a being my last one in. But can't parse it at all! don't see any mention of it by others, so I'm probably missing something obvious.

All in all, a very enjoyable solve.

Jukesvern, add “is” into your answer…

Hmm. But I still don't see where the pest comes in?!

Thanks for the help, all. Just find it weird an accent being described as a "line"! (but then, I'm French 😉)

I agree this was an enjoyable solve over my Sunday brunch. Some useful gimmes and some slightly trickier. I’m choosing 11a as my WOD (word of the day that I want to use more often) - a lovely loan word that I will try to fit into my week somehow.

Julesvern, make sure the ‘is’ comes inside not at the ends.
