Phil10000 I wondered about 22a too, but I think it is as in "I wouldn't dismiss that [answer to 22a goes here]" i.e. "I wouldn't dismiss that without thinking".

Morning all.
Not too hard but challenging enough to be enjoyable. Still stuck on 20d & 24a despite having crossers. Hints?
Like you JS, 5A clues always take a while.
It must be wonderful for the setter to discover an anagram such as 14a, and then misdirect with the anagrind.
Enjoy your Sundays. The sun's shining in Devon.

Hi Phil,

22a - I think this is just a double definition.

Hi Barry,

24a - 10 letter "anti-royalist" minus 2 letter "about" gives you "one serving"?

20d - 4 letter "ceremony" + 2 letter "ponderous pronouncement" - definition is "ornamentation".

I notice that 20d is given in Chambers as (6) rather than (3-3), which is there but has a different meaning.

A quick but satisfying solve. Enjoyed 18d 24a and 9a.

Thanks Brendan and Steve. I (just about) see it now, but it still feels a bit weak in what was otherwise a really smart puzzle. The only (minor) other quibble was that 'ponderous' in 20D -- 'meditative' might have been fairer.

Twitter rebranded as X last July, which makes me wonder how far in advance Everyman writes theses puzzles.
