I assumed that the plumbic weapon related to the asterisks in 14d, and that the second answer was in the context of pottery (3rd def in Chambers). Was that how you read it?
You assumed correctly. I didn't find the context of the second answer but found p****g under the heading s**p in a smaller Chambers edition (one limited to providing synonyms or associations), and that did the trick for me.
