I was trying to avoid putting numbers down to avoid spoiling it for anyone else, can email my numbers if someone wouldn't mind checking them?

The only ones I have are P & X, Q & V, and A & R - it is just those I was after confirming. My email is spw6128 at gmail dot com. Thanks.

Could anyone that has completed this confirm whether or not V=19? I think that may be the nub of my impasse!

Yes, s_pugh, V is 19.

As you have P, X, Q, V, A and R, you've probably solved the clues for 9d (which gives P and X), 34a, which gives the relationship between Q and V, and 35a and 5d, which confirm V (and therefore Q) and also give A and R. You should be able to deduce J from 4d, T, Y and D from 10a and 11a, H from 31a and 4a, and B from 1a (in that order). I solved the clues in a slightly different order, but reached the same set of 12 letters. I didn't use Euclid's formula originally, but I have subsequently found that it dramatically reduces the possibilities for Q and V implied by 34a.

I thought I was doing OK and, on checking here, have used the suggested approaches already. Like Spugh, I have hit a problem with 4d though. I get x as 636, but my spreadsheet does not show that as a valid x. Maybe my spreadsheet is not big enough? Is there a site with a bigger one already done?

Hi Rrrobbo,

You could try www.tsm-resorces.com/alists/trip.html. It gives a longer list and can be saved as a spredsheet for sorting etc. (Unfortunately it doesn't give the combination needed for 4d (x=636 is correct) but is useful for other combinations)
