many thanks Mamya - not sure of the answer protocol on RTE threads but Locks (hair) backwards and 1st 2 letters of a tree? if it fits the letters.

I had the answer for 5d but it bugged me that I couldn't see the clues properly. However I continued to think about it in bed and suddenly I was able to split the clues up correctly. Eureka! The clues then made sense in the way I have just seen tevor lay them out.

Top right hand corner has me stuck, again. Even with the previous discussion here I am no further forward! Sometimes whe I ask for help the penny actually drops so here's hoping!!!! 8A Muddle tenses again after getting hurt. (5,4) I have ?A?E? And nil for the 4 word. Also 11A (8) and I have the first 3 as OUT?????. Perhaps if I get 8A I will be able to then get 5 and 6D.

Some clues clever as usual. I didn't help myself at first by putting that Scottish town and fish as Arbroath until I tried to do 14A and then I saw the light!!

Thanks chrise but I was just about to say 'dont disturb the cat on my account' when you posted again!! No golf for you today? We seem to have a nice day here but I haven't been out much this week as I came a cropper on the stairs on Monday but on the mend now thankfully!
