Votes are all in nice and early, thank you everyone.

The winner, romping well ahead of the field, is Darla with 6 votes for the smoothly crafted:
"Endlessly getting older but game"

In second place was Amej with 2 votes, for the similarly smooth:
"Aging heart requires tonic"

Balked at this initially, but then realised it was the US spelling.

In third place, jointly, are Getting (1 each for 20 and 21), Buddy @27 and Darla again @18.

Well done everybody, some fine efforts.

Prizes below. Hope the humour isn't too offensive:

Congrats darla and thanks SS.

SS: I'm confused by your comment on amej's clue. Unless I'm missing something, isn't darla using the same spelling?

What a pleasant surprise. Thanks to all who voted for me. Re Chris' comment, being American I guess I would be expected to use that spelling? Sorry for stealing your thunder, amej. I hadn't seen your clue. Thanks to simplesimon for the hosting and prizes. Ironically, perhaps, gin is my least-liked spirit. Next week, tequila!

congrats darla; thanks to ss and to geting for the vote.

Chambers lists "aging or ageing", in that order, with no designation as to a US spelling, so it seems either should be fine,

Chrise. Indeed, Darla is using the same spelling. It’s just that, in parsing the clue, one is just visualising the synonym and removing the ends without actually seeing the word written down. In Amej’s case, the word is in front of you, hence the “balk”. Obviously, both spellings are acceptable.
