I, far from being a novice alas, am in the same place as (s)he is. Not 100% sure which are the special four answers either. Three yes, but a fourth?

Me too, cockie and novice, two possible adjustments to 1ac, neither leaving a 10 letter word - and can't see the fourth..
Everything else done....

Now got 2 of the four but struggling with the source of the quotation. Knowing how 33a is parsed would help me, and I am assuming one of the thematic alterations in the message involves 12a.

33Ac v convoluted. Two is Roman Numerals around an ass, followed by O (so rob needs adjusting)

This is now getting rather annoying. I have the work, the author, the quote and the 30 cells to highlight. I also have a full grid that seems correct, but only have 2 of the 4 altered answers. It is a clever grid and works well, but this last step surely is a GWIT moment.

Hi Candledave, I have 2 normal in the across clues, and there can't be anymore, so I am currently revisiting the down clues, with 23, 27 and 35 down currently eluding me.
