Thea @29 - I initially thought that about AB's too, but I think that if you read it as a cryptic definition (a la Rufus in the Guardian) rather than "definition + wordplay" it works very well.

Hi chrise Thank you for your comment - much appreciated -- and sort of confirms my view - Except I note your invention of a Cryptic Definition. Ive never heard of that beast ... In fact I doubt whether it ever existed.
I am very surprised that our friends have voted for abs effort - cant they see the flaw or don't they mind.

Ive said it before and I say it again We are talking about cryptic clues - an unambiguous definition and a watertight encryption with no overlapping.

Hi . chrise I think Rufus is stretching things too far.

But my point remains - Umbrage is not encrypted. I think Rufus does allusively cover the ground completely. Lets wait and see.
