Thanks for posting this, Syzygy, very engrossing.

Had to Google a few after they fell into place, eg 6d, 9d & 33d, so some new words for the vocabulary.

After all your praise, I decided to take time off from my time out, so to speak, and yes, it was good, and yes, there were a few new words (and above all, one new spelling) to learn. Thank you again, Syzygy!

A few new ones for me at 1 & 48 Across / 1, 4, & 33 Down.
A few neat Americanisms in there that I liked, in particular 2d.
Also spotted aristo's favourite synonym for 'kill' in part of 31d (if my memory serves me correct)
