I am still at a loss to get 3d: Second Conservative coalition bails out a problem for lower classes? (16).
I have all the crossing letters, and know the letter to be removed, but just can't see it! Could someone please give me a nudge in the right direction?

It's an anagram - that's the only hint I can think of!

Thanks, Malone. That was my assumption. But no abbreviations I can think of for 'Second' and 'Conservative' seem to help me...

I've no longer got the paper - and my scribble sheet that I needed! - but I think it might just have been the S for 'Second'.

S - second and C -Con with coalition bails gives actinobacillosis - disease of animals?

Nikki, I could have given you the answer hours ago (even if I forgot how to parse it), but didn't as you'd asked for 'a nudge' - that usually means solvers want just a hint.

Can anyone give me any hint as regards 12A and 14A? Thank you.
