unclued

Ionacarr - in the third row the unclued word is LAND which creates two new answers idol and land agent. Can you explain the second row to me please? I can't see what fish you mean.

Unclued - look up Chambers To find a five letter word in which the first four are the four which logically follow the first four in that row, and then see which of the five letters can precede the last four in the row.

I've got all the entries for the missing words but didn't think that as many as three of them would just involve a single letter crossover. How boring! It's not much of an achievement, this one, is it?

IonaCarr- none of them need to be a single letter. Check Chambers for longer possibilities, eg the first five letters of the third row.

Row 6, 24 across the definition told you the answer was an example of a ......
Row 9, find an alternative meaning of the answer to 36 as a plural
Row 12,, look at second Chambers entry for answer to 48, and think what that is an example of ( to a child perhaps.)

In row 6 think tennis, in row 9 think trees and in row 12 think golf. Rows 2 & 4 do have a single letter connection, rows 1 & 3 a 3-letter connection; in row 8 think Greek alphabet. Once you've solved all the other bits and pieces the rows are almost completely filled. The second word in row 2 is not speck. It starts with the last letter of the first word.

All understood now, thanks to gem94 and escuan. Row 9 was interesting - usually Chambers shows obscure plurals as main entries, then tells you to look up the singular, but not with this one. I envy some of you your lateral thinking skills!
