Brutally difficult for me, this puzzle and yet all the comments say how straightforward it is.

I have solved 4d and 15a.

1a - Party symbol linked to US election showing full spectrum? (7,7)

1d - Standard chess piece encountered Queen once? Here’s not a place to stay indefinitely (7,5)

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

1D. A usual three letter word for standard, usual, followed by a four letter chess piece. The second word is a three letter 'encountered' followed by a two-letter 'queen one'(recently).

1a: I found this difficult. Definition "showing full spectrum". First word is a type of US election, second word is "party symbol" (plural noun).
