I believe the answer is fairly obvious, but I'm missing the full word play:

71d Nancy's on the way? (2,5)

I have ?N ?O?T? and assume it's EN ROUTE, so either it's a poor clue or a lack of understanding from me. Probably the latter!

It's Nancy, the city in France rather than a person called Nancy.

Thanks Brendan, yes I assumed it was probably the city, but it still doesn't completely provide the word play in my book?

This type of clue appears regularly in cryptic crosswords. The setter in this case could have used any place in France as En Route is French for 'on the way' but presumably chose Nancy to muddy the waters somewhat. Just to clarify then, 'Nancy's on the way?' is En Route just as 'Paris's on the way?' or 'Lyon's on the way?' etc.
