I feel that using 'festival' is a bit redundant, however, it is used for things like Christmas

It may have an archaic etymology Chris, may have only been used for special occasions. I can't check now cus I'm at work. I'm sure one of the very kind group will check it for you and feed back

A definition of "eve" - see Chambers - is "the night or whole day before a festival or notable event"
