I only seem to have 4 clashes, I'm obviously missing something. Could somebody tell me if there are more than two 'essential features' of the poem?

Assuming that the ones you have relate to author and title (two each), there is another, single clash, that relates to the point of the poem itself

I'd welcome a little guidance on 6A where I have the 4 checked letters but none of the possible words has any connection with any part of the clue. If I have located the 5 clashes correctly then none of them occurs in 6A. What is the def?

I can't parse 36 although the answer is obvious.

I don't think you have located the clashes then - by my reckoning, two of them occur in 6A, whose definition is voracious.

I can't parse 36 either - or 43.

In 36 'from' = A - check à in Chambers. 'Brown' is a two letter abbreviation.
In 43 a word for tackily vulgar with S removed (pointlessly) and an extra C. God = the sun god.

Ah, yes, 6A is straightforward once you twig that there are 2 clashes. I thought I had 1D correct, but are there 2 clashes there as well? I can see a word with 2 clashes with the def as confusion, but the word play eludes me if so. This is one of those puzzles where 95+% of the grid is pretty quick to fill but the rest, and the endplay are taking a long long time.

I didn't solve intermediate answers for 6A or 1D, but do have thematic entries for those two, and have chosen a letter in just one cell outside of those two entries. Is that it ? I surely hope so, I need to eat...
