I have a full grid, the subject and the instruction. Have highlighted the speaker (8 letters) but no idea what else to highlight (31 more letters...) Any help please?

It is a 7 word quote starting 'Oh....'

As it is a long quote you have to look diagonally!

I've counted and recounted, and I get 40 letters to be highlighted, not 39. Is it my mistake or the compiler's?

Have you counted 1 letter twice - the 5th letter of the speaker?

I make it 39 as well and agree with Sudokulover's surmise.

Nice puzzle but an unfortunate ambiguity in 23 down that really should have been spotted by the editor. BAD HAIR would be a perfectly reasonable answer to the clue with the instruction HIGHLIGHT SPEAKER END REACTION.
