Clue: American feet in Morse's uniform patterns?
Answer: (because it fits with everything) ANAPESTS.
Problem: why?

I suppose the definition is "American feet" because in England it would be spelled ANAPAEST.

Don't see the rest yet, though.

ANAPAESTS for "feet", of course.

An anapaest is two short syllables followed by a long syllable. Uniform = U = ..- (two shorts and a long) in Morse code.

20d - Blinds is a 10 letter word which loses its last letter (an 's') to form a fabric. 3rd and 6th letters are clashes.
39ac - think of what happens over 3 days and remove its 1st letter.

Can anyone give me a nudge towards finding the 15 letter word?

20D is like a French adjective for the old name of a Middle Eastern country in the feminine singular.
