45 across: Bottom, old-fashioned, is enlivening in turn, missing Thisbe's end (7) The letters I have are S - A - I - A. The only word I can find which fits these letters is STAMINA, but I can't see why this should be right. All help gratefully received!

15. Bottom = Staying power; stamina. Used of a horse.

enlivening = animates (reversed) minus e (end letter of Thisbe

and ANIMATE = to enliven; animates = is enlivining; lacking ThisbE's end = animats and in turn = STAMINA
