58A is SUI GENERIS (which means "in a class of its own"). It's an anagram of GENIUS IS, with ER (monarch) in the middle.

I'm still stuck on 55d too. The U of SUI GENERIS makes it T-U. I think it must be TAU (which is a Greek letter), but I can't figure out how the rest of the clue fits with it :-(
